With affiliate marketing, a company agrees to pay you a commission for helping to sell their products. Visitors see the company’s ad on your Web pages and, if they click through to the company’s Web site and do a particular thing, you’ll get paid.
The particular thing the visitor has to do varies; some affiliate programs pay per click while others pay per lead or even per sale. These are four of the biggest (and most established) affiliate programs on the ‘Net:

1. Amazon Associate
Associates is Amazon.com affiliate marketing program. By linking to Amazon products and services you can add compelling content for your site visitors enjoyment and receive up to 10% in referral fees for doing so.

As one of the first online affiliate marketing programs, Associates has a 10-year track record of developing solutions to help website owners, Web developers, and Amazon sellers make money. Our latest innovations include aStore, Omakase™ Links, and Product Previews.
Current participants in the Amazon Associates program include large, well-known sites, niche content sites and blogs, comparison shopping engines, search engine marketers, and everything in between. Visit our Current Associates page to see how some of these members are using our solutions.

2. LinkShare
These days a Publisher can be any type of Web site from a well known destination that offers consumers a range of shopping opportunities to a blogger that’s just beginning to attract an audience.

Regardless of what type of site you have in mind (or already have in place!) as you build a loyal following you have an opportunity to monetize your Web site and start earning commissions!
Also called an affiliate, a publisher displays ads, text links, or product links from an advertiser in return for a commission when a sale is made or when a lead is acquired.
The sale can also be tied to a specific action such as filling out a form or downloading a trial. LinkShare facilitates relationships between publishers and advertisers by providing the underlying technology that manages links, tracks results and commissions, and sends payments.

4. Commission Junction
is the coolest, most efficient way to administrate affiliate marketing for one or multiple sites without having a programmer-level comprehension of the online space.

Commission Junction recently purchased the number two player in the affiliates Internet marketing ballgame, making them the top destination site and interface tool for both advertisers and publishers. Advertisers hoping to promote their new site or service, product or portal, can opt into the Commission Junction site.

Publishers, or website designs/domain manages, can select from a search able gallery of affiliate programs and work immediately from the interface to develop revenue. Commission junction allows a publisher to conjoin multiple sites, so appropriate banner snap html code can be integrated into a sponsor id to aggregate clicks to the proper domain for credit.
Publishers can apply for membership with cj.com. Then once inside the interface they can move about to learn more or get started. By clicking “get links”, the user moves from browser to shopper. By selecting the domain (website) in the drop down, users at Commission Junction can browse ads and banners for their sites.
